Two of Fresenius Vamed’s rehabilitation clinics in Austria have again been certified as “World Hospitals” by the Joint Commission International (JCI). The renewed certifications mean the Rehabilitation Clinic Montafon and the Neurological Therapy Center Gmundnerberg remain among the approximately 800 hospitals worldwide recognized by the JCI as top-tier facilities. A certification as a World Hospital is valid for three years. Quality standards are verified annually by the U.S.-based JCI, the world’s leading competence center for quality and patient safety in healthcare.

Fresenius Vamed has successfully completed another major project in Germany’s healthcare system, an emergency care center at the Charité university hospital in Berlin. The new center was built in partnership with the construction company Züblin for about €70 million. It will cover about 8,000 square meters (86,000 square feet) and host 15 operating rooms, a 71-bed intensive care ward and a central emergency department.

A consortium led by Vamed has handed over the first new building at the University Hospital in Kiel. The new unit took less than four months to build and will house a haematology-oncology ward. The building is part of a comprehensive construction and modernization project at the hospital. Completion is scheduled for 2019.

Vamed is realizing the new main building of University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel, Germany as part of a public-private partnership. The company will also be responsible for the long-term technical management of the building, which will house more than 600 beds and 22 operating rooms. The work is part of a comprehensive construction and modernization project at the hospital. Completion is scheduled for 2019.

Medical progress is steadily increasing life expectancy for cancer patients. A study by VAMED of some 1,000 cancer patients in Austria shows that rehabilitation is improving their quality of life. Cases of depression fell by half after oncological rehabilitation, according to the study, carried out at VAMED’s rehabilitation center in St. Veit, Austria. Anxiety about a possible recurrence of cancer fell by a similar amount. Fresenius Vamed operates 15 rehabilitation centers in Europe.

VAMED-KMB has won the EFQM Excellence Award in the category “Adding Value for Customer” for its technical operations management of Vienna General Hospital. Awarded by the European Foundation for Quality Management, the prize is considered to be Europe’s most prestigious, with the most exacting standards. VAMED-KMB had already won the EFQM Excellence Award three times in various categories over the previous six years. A subsidiary of VAMED AG, VAMED-KMB has been responsible for the technical operations of of Vienna General Hospital since its construction more than 30 years ago. With more than 2,000 beds, the hospital is one of Europe’s biggest.

The cornerstone for the modernization of University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein was laid today in Lübeck, Germany. VAMED and its consortium partner BAM will construct new buildings and renovate existing ones in a €520 million project, with completion scheduled for 2021. In addition, the consortium will provide technical management services until 2044. The total contract has a volume of approximately €1.7 billion.
